—Craft Beer List—

Longfin Lager
4.5% ABV // 18 IBUs // Year Round
“Inspired by the Helles Style from Germany, this very light colored Lager is big on malt flavor. With the reserved use of hops in bittering, this crisp Lager has the aroma, and flavor of fresh baked bread thanks to the German produced Pilsner Malt. Hell is the German adjective for “light,” while Helles is a noun used in the sense of “a light one.” Unlike the Helles beers of Germany that take time traveling to San Diego, this beer is locally lagered and delivered fresh. You can’t argue the minimal carbon footprint of a World Style being produced locally.”

Wahoo White
4.5% ABV // 12 IBUs // Year Round
“Summer days and ocean waves inspired our Belgian Witbier-styled Wahoo White. Brewed to be crisp, light, and refreshing—with a unique citrus character that comes from adding orange peel and coriander to the boil. What gives our Wahoo White—and other wheat beers—a hazy appearance is the unmalted wheat it’s made from. Special yeast contributes to this beer’s refreshing tangy flavor—quite different from the banana and clove-y Hefeweizens of Bavaria.

Pescadero Pilsner
5.5% ABV // 40 IBUs // Draft Only
“First brewed on Pescadero Avenue, which is located in the coastal San Diego town of Ocean Beach. Pescadero Pilsner pours a light, golden color with a bright white head. It has aromas of bready pilsner malt and a grassy, floral Saaz hops. There is a light to moderate amount of lingering bitterness and lemon citrus flavor from the hops. With a touch of dry hopping and an elevated ABV, this Pilsner-inspired, cold fermented lager is both traditional and new world at the same time.

Pale Ale: The Original
5.2% ABV // 23 IBUs // Year Round
“German-style Pale Ale, inspired by the Kolsch Ales of Cologne, Germany. Our Pale Ale drinks like a Pilsner, only with more body and flavor. It’s no wonder why our Pale Ale is so popular—it is skillfully crafted in the style of the Kolsch beers of Cologne, Germany. We’ve chosen German hops for aroma, and rounded out the recipe with a blend of American and German malts. While it is very much like a Pilsner, our Pale Ale is fermented at ale temperatures, giving it a subdued fruitiness—a perfect complement to the crispness of the wheat and maltiness of the Munich malt. If you like a lighter brew but also like the complexity of craft beers, then our Pale Ale is for you.”

Calico Amber Ale
5.5% ABV // 35 IBUs // Year Round
“Inspired by traditional English ESB’s, our Calico Amber Ale is as American as it could be. A rich complexity comes from four types of malt—but it’s those distinct American hops that offer a crisp bitterness and unique floral aroma. To round out our traditional-English-yet-very-American Amber Ale, we use proprietary brewer’s yeast to develop a fruity, madeira-like richness.”

Piper Down Scottish Ale
5.8% ABV //22 IBUs //Limited
“The Ballast Point Brewing Company Bag Pipe Band was the inspiration behind this Scottish Ale. BPB&S owner Jack White wanted a moderate alcohol, low hopped and malty ale to be enjoyed by the band. Using UK Maris Otter malt, roasted raw barley (no peated malt), UK Fuggle hops and a three hour boil to add flavors of milk chocolate, toffee and a mild roast. Piper Down pours a clear dark mahogany with candy cane red hues when held up to the light. Look for malt derived aromas of candied sugar, molasses, plum and a little herbal spice from the hops. Yeast influence is kept to a minimum with the ale fermentation taking place at 62 degrees which really lets the malts shine. Occasionally a Piper likes a drink or two. Too many drinks and the Pipes make the Piper a little top heavy. When the oxygen starved and pickled Piper eventually keel’s over, the call goes out loud, “Piper Down”!”
Reef Rye Brown

Tongue Buckler Imperial Red Ale
10% ABV // 108 IBUs // Limited
“Pours a crimson red color which comes from the addition of UK Dark Crystal Malts and a small addition of huskless black malt. Aroma of dried figs, lime, spruce tips and burnt sugar. Copious amounts of hops are added in multiple additions to this ample ale. From the 108 International Bittering Units (White Labs has only tested a handful of beers over 100 IBU’s) to the over two pounds per barrel of dry hopping used. Hops like Galena, Chinook and Magnum help add a resinous blood orange and grapefruit flavor to this huge Double/Imperial Red Ale.”

Even Keel Session IPA
3.5% ABV // IBUS // Limited
“Ten different malts and six different hops (Ahtanum, Cluster, and Spalt to name a few) combine to create this full-flavored, small beer. Even Keel features a silky malt backbone and a bright hop flavor and aroma that come from the late kettle additions and dry hopping with 1.5 pounds per barrel. Even more layers of flavor are created with fermentation being done by two strains of yeast. This session ale is herbaceous with additional citrus aromas of lemon and grapefruit. The orange to copper hue draws you in and the low alcohol volume keeps you coming back for more.”

Grunion Pale Ale
5.5% ABV // 35 IBUs // Limited
“American Pale Ale with Calypso and Mosaic hops. Made by Doug Pominville.”

Fathom IPL
7% ABV // 70 IBUs // Limited
“Despite using traditional Lager techniques (cold fermentation) and a traditional West Coast IPA recipe, this beer is far from “traditional”. The use of a clean fermenting Lager strain cuts out the fruity flavors traditionally added by using warm fermenting Ale yeast. This allows the hops a neutral base for the citrus and pine hop flavors and aromas to shine. We keep some inspiration from European lagers with a malt base that includes both Munich and Vienna malts. Ahtanum is used in large amounts for dry hopping.”

Sculpin IPA
7% ABV // 70 IBUs // Year Round
“The Sculpin IPA is a testament to our humble beginnings as Home Brew Mart. It showcases bright flavors and aromas of apricot, peach, mango & lemon. The lighter body also brings out the crispness of the hops. The Sculpin fish has poisonous spikes on its fins that can give a strong sting. Ironically, the meat from a Sculpin fish is considered some of the tastiest. Something that has a sting but tastes great; sounds like a Ballast Point India Pale Ale.”

Big Eye IPA
7% ABV // 71 IBUs // Year Round
“If you have fallen for the IPA style like we have, Big Eye will be a welcome addition to your repertoire. You’ll revel in Big Eye’s bitter, hoppy flavor thanks to the American Columbus and Centennial hops that are used to flavor and dry hop our flagship IPA. We thank our hops every day that the English loved their bitters—or else the IPA style may not have been born to help the beer survive the journey from Cape Hope to India back in the 18th century.

Dorado Double IPA
10% ABV // 90 IBUs // Limited
“On a quest to make delicious beers, our brewers have continually sought out new creative ways to accentuate the delightfully aromatic and flavorful qualities of hops. Dorado Double IPA takes hops to a new level. Mash hopping, kettle hopping, and dry hopping (Crystal and Mt. Hood), create an award winning beer that embodies San Diego’s reputation for making world class IPAs.”

Steamboat Black Lager
6% ABV // 46 IBUs // Draft Only
“Collaboration with our friends from Briess Malts and White Labs. We collaborated to make a beer and have it ready to be served at the 2012 Craft Brewers Conference. Briess Malts asked us to make a beer for them using their new Blackprinz malt (a husk-less variety of malted barley which they roast to 500 Lovibond). We use Great Western and Briess Malts in the brew to make a Hoppy Black California Common beer. Chinook, Amarillo, Centennial and Crystal hops were all used in large amounts. This warm fermented lager is ebony in color and obnoxiously dry hopped. Our inspiration came from many styles. The hop aromas of an IPA, the smooth roasted flavors and low bitterness from a German Swartz Bier and the fruity aromas derived from a warm fermentation of a lager yeast like a Steam Beer.”

Black Marlin Porter
6% ABV // 42 IBUs // Year Round
“With its dark roasted malts and assertive hopping, this is an American version of the classic Porter style beer. Dark brown/black color and medium bodied. Like dessert? You’ll love this: Black Marlin Porter with apple pie a la mode—try it! Black Marlin is a rich, dark and chocolaty Porter with a distinctive American hop character. It is a great beer to go with hearty foods and is always one of the beers that pairs well with dessert. We also invite you to blend Black Marlin with Big Eye IPA for a treat we like to call the Black Eye.”

Navigator Doppelbock
8.1% ABV // 23 IBUs // Draft Only
“German beer law allows any Doppelbock with an original gravity of or greater than 1.074 (18.5° Plato) to carry the ’ator suffix. A navigator is the person on board a ship or aircraft responsible for its navigation. The navigator’s primary responsibility is to be aware of ship or aircraft position at all times. Navigators’ sextants were primarily used for celestial navigation.”

Victory at Sea Imperial Porter With Coffee and Vanilla
10% ABV // 60 IBUs // Limited
“Although the winters in San Diego don’t get too brutal, the brewers at Ballast Point wanted a warmer, Winter Ale that brings comfort on those days when you can see your breath. This Imperial Porter clocks in at 10% ABV and gets most of its roasted flavor from coffee beans prepared locally at Caffe Calabria on 30th Street. Winter Ales traditionally have a spice, and in this beer we chose vanilla to round out this very special “big” beer. Our Victory at Sea Imperial Porter is infused with ¾ ounce cold brewed coffee per pint.”

Sea Monster Imperial Stout
10% ABV // 65 IBUs // Limited
“First brewed as an American Stout before being amped up to a big and bitter Imperial Stout. Pours jet black, completely opaque, with khaki foam. Sea Monster contains aromas of licorice, citric hops, malted milk balls, and coffee and flavors of molasses, dark cherry sugars, licorice, cocoa nibs, and roasted, oily malts. Toffee sweetness and silky oats round out this strong ale without being cloying.”

Grapefruit Sculpin IPA With Grapefruit Rind
7% ABV // 70 IBUs // Draft Only
“Our most popular IPA infused with fresh grapefruit to enhance the already grapefruit and citrus aroma and flavor of Sculpin.

Sculpin With Habanero IPA
7% ABV // 70 IBUs // Draft Only
“Locally grown habaneros are added to Sculpin. The sweet citrus flavors and floral aromas of the habanero pair well with Sculpin’s hop profile”

Calico With Guajillo Amber Ale
5.5% ABV // 35 IBUs // Draft Only
“Calico Amber with additions of guajillo chilis bring a little bit of heat to balance out the caramel and toffee flavored malts.”

Black Marlin With Chipotle, Cocoa Nibs, And Orange Peel Porter
6% ABV // 42 IBUs // Draft Only
“Smokey and roasted characters of the chipotle pepper and cocoa nibs pair well with Black Marlin’s deep malt flavor.”

Indra Kunindra Curry Export Stout
7% ABV // 50 IBUs // Limited
“With polarizing ingredients packed into a very roasty Export Stout, beer drinkers seem to love it or hate it. Ingredients added post-fermentation, really keep all those volatile aromas locked in the beer. Please take your time with this beer and allow it to warm up. Initial hits of Madras Curry and Cumin start to get balanced out by the Kaffir lime leaf and toasted coconut once the beer warms. Cayenne will always be a lingering tickle in the back of your throat.”

Syrah Barrel Aged 3 Sheets Barley Wine Ale
10% ABV // 55 IBUs // Draft Only
“Inspired by the hoppier West Coast BarleyWines in the late ’80s and early ’90s. This American Barley Wine is full of rich roasted caramel flavors and the spice and aroma from many hop additions. Eighty Lovibond Crystal Malt helps create a light mahogany color and dry hopping with Cascade Hops add to the many layers of flavors in this ever-evolving ale. When Three Sheets Barley Wine is fresh, it almost leans into the Double/Imperial Red category. Cellar it for a year, expect the taste of the hop bitterness and hop aroma to back off and the rich melanoidin sugars, from a two hour boil, step forward caressing you with a complex malty smoothness.”

“A cask beer is naturally carbonated and served at room temperature using a hand pump. Because of the process, it tends to come off to many people as warm and flat but this process allows for tons of experimentation and brings out different flavors in beer not typically found in its draft counterpart. It is very traditional and very common in Europe in particular the UK.”
